Zenica, Bosnia. May 2011
A city of 130,000, Zenica is located in central Bosnia where the memories and scars of the war are still fresh and painful for many. Zenica, like many Bosnian communities, is trying to find its voice of recovery and transformation from a difficult past.
Now, imagine that your work can tell the whole world whom these people are. Your photographs can breathe life into an existence that few people know. This is what our photographers do at this workshop as they work alongside Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
Underneath Zenica’s problems, you’ll discover the beauty and meet friendly people who, affected by the situation, still walk the streets and socialize by drinking coffee three times a day.
Coming to Zenica will not be a vacation. During this intensive week, you will work with university students and young professional photographers from some of the best universities in Bosnia. At the end of each day, you will edit your images with some of the leaders in the field of documentary photography from the U.S. and Bosnia.
At the end of the week, your work will be shared with our partnering NGOs, which will give you the opportunity for your images and stories to stand as a witness and defense of the lives of your subjects.
